Prof Phuong graduated as Medical Doctor in 1970 from Saigon Medical University (SMU) and took post-graduate training in Obstetrics & Gynecology, SMU in collaboration with AMA in 1970-1974.

She was elected and nominated as Associate Professor of University of Medicine in Nice Sophia Antipolis since 1994. Prof. Phuong has been more than 40 years in Obstetrics and Gynecology in both clinical appointments and teaching activities. She was former Director of the Tu Du Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital of HCMC, and Head of Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, Ho Chi Minh University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Now she serves as President of the HOSREM - Ho Chi Minh City Society for Reproductive Medicine and Vice-President of Vietnam Obstetricians Gynecologists Association (VINAGOFPA). She also participates in several socio-political associations as President of The Vietnam American Solidarity Association, Vice-President of Ho Chi Minh Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO), Vice-President of Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/ Dioxin.

  • Impact of toxic chemical warfare on reproductive health (1983 – 1989 – 1997 - 2010).
  • Prevention of mother to baby transmission of viral hepatitis B (1990).
  • First implementation and first success of in-vitro fertilization in Vietnam (1997).
  • An approach to the training model of traditional birth attendants of minority ethnics for remote areas in Vietnam (since 1993). Today, there are more than 1,000 ethnic minorities midwives trained and still working well in mountainous areas in Vietnam.
  • Establing and raising the social awareness about post – menopausal women ’s health and set up measures for enhancement of their quality of life since 1997 to date

Prof. Phuong’s major interests include post-menopause, in-vitro fertilization.
